“I knew with an absolute inner certainty that I would be a chiropractor. I was thoroughly inspired,” said Dr. Fairbourn moments after her first meeting with a local chiropractor. “This was the strongest message I had ever received through my intuition and I am so grateful that I followed it. Not only did I discover my future passion and career, I learned that we have an inner guidance system that we can use to find healing and joy in life.”
My Chiropractic Path
Dr. Fairbourn began her pre-medical education at Mount Royal College here in Calgary and at the University of Victoria where she studied the basic sciences such as inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry and biology along with basic physiology and anatomy courses. After completing her study there, she was accepted at Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, California.
During her four years at Palmer, courses included biochemistry, a major emphasis on anatomy and human physiology, x-ray, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques and patient care in the Palmer College Public Clinic. Although it was not in our curriculum, I was fortunate to learn Applied Kinesiology (muscle testing) which I was very passionate about. It is a method of gaining information from the body to detect with laser beam focus exactly where a problem is and how to most effectively treat it. I was excited to share this skill with my future patients.
After graduating in 2002, Dr. Fairbourn returned to the Calgary area to establish her chiropractic practice. She genuinely believes in the principles of alternative healing which is that the body can heal itself when there is no interference. This interference such as emotional stress, toxins, nutritional deficiencies and physical stress can be reduced to allow the body to heal itself. With this strong belief, Dr. Fairbourn uses a variety of techniques to thoroughly assess and treat her patients. “We see profound changes in health with our holistic approach,” says Dr. Fairbourn.
Dr. Fairbourn has two beautiful children, Gracie and Jackson. They were born naturally and had their first chiropractic adjustment hours after birth. (If that sounds interesting, be sure to ask Dr. Fairbourn to explain.)
